So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye ~ to 2009

Ahhhh, 2009 is almost over.
All, I have to say is thank goodness this year is coming to an end. It has been quite a roller coaster of a year, and I’m ready to get off of the ride.
January started off with a bang. A fresh year, and new goals. I was determined to lose that last 40 pounds, and I met a fellow! We were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. We clicked and started hanging out every weekend. I went to Reba’s Birthday party and met her beaux, Troy. And I painted and remodeled my master bedroom.
February was fun. I had a serious Valentine for the first time in years. My Valentine sent me the most beautiful flowers, and we went on a date to the Clark Planetarium.
March saw me making corned beef and cabbage for three that I took down to the Church Office Building so I could have St. Patrick’s Day lunch with my guy and his friend/boss.
April saw Easter with my own Honey-Bunny. We still had snow. Even on the day that I drove to Yucaipa with my new love to meet his Father, Stepmother and Brother. It was an emotional trip for him, and I was glad to be there as a support for him. I also learned how to make Strawberry Rhubarb Pie from his Father. We went to General Conference and had the best seats ever. I had a new fence installed between my neighbor and I. Oh, and he proposed… via text message. I accepted and went out and bought my ring.
May had my birthday. My parents came out to visit as did some long time family friends. We went to the Larry Miller Motorsports park in Tooele to watch a race that the Porsche my company sponsors was racing in. We went to Red Butte Gardens with my parents. We purchased new sofas for the family room, and gave my blue lazy-boy sofa to his nephew. Oh! And I bought my wedding dress.
June is when the roller coaster started to crash. We started to fight because he thought he was giving up more to be in a relationship than I was. (He failed to take into consideration the big things I was giving up and/or taking on, but NEVER threw back in his face because I felt as though it would be wrong to.) He sent me an email saying he wanted to cancel the wedding. I took back my engagement ring, cancelled the sofas that we had ordered and called the temple to cancel. Because, he said it was my fault he cancelled the wedding and he didn’t need to deal with any of it. Best of all, I learned who my true friends were. And, I was released from Primary and called into Young Women’s as a Mia Maids Advisor.
July saw Independence Day. It was sort of symbolic. Mitzi and I took a vacation and drove out to Sacramento to reconnect with several friends. I went horseback riding up in Park City, and I went to the West Jordan Rodeo.
In August, I finally hit the 100 pounds lost mark! And we welcomed a new member of the family, a cute trouble maker named Frito. With the help of a few neighbors, I replaced a good number of my sprinklers because my lawn was drying out. And, I planted a new tree in the front yard.
In September I planted sod in what used to be a flower bed in the middle of my yard. We had a neighborhood bicycle parade, and I learned how to make jewelry. It was also the month that I was supposed to be married in, so I was a bit emotional. I sent a message to the former fiance expressing how I felt, and in return I received a 7 page email outlining what an awful person I am and how I was the sole cause for the destruction of our relationship. He finally admitted to the fact that the reason he cancelled the wedding was because I was not supportive of his desire to pull out the lawn in the front yard. Honest too goodness, that’s the reason.
In October, I drove to Las Vegas for work. I spent a few days in meetings that I had organized. During that time, I saw the Cirque du Soleil show “Love”. We also had a cowboy cookout in an old “Ghost Town” and my favorite local band, Relativity, was there. Halloween closed out the month on a chilly note. Instead of dressing up, I bundled up to hand out candy. And I received a couple of hurtful messages from the former fiance on Facebook.
November brought about Thanksgiving. I spent the day with the best friends a girl could ever ask for. I won second place in a cobbler cook-off with my Pumpkin Cobbler. I declared a major at school - Sociology with an emphasis on Criminology. And Reba got engaged.
December saw more cold weather, and me heading to Florida for 3 days to escape it. I reconnected with my dear friend while I was there. I had to take Frito to the Emergency Vet because he got on the kitchen counter, found the other dog’s pills and chewed on the bottle until it opened and he proceeded to eat all of the pills inside. See? I told you he’s a troublemaker! Luckily, he was fine. I flew to Sacramento to spend the holiday with the family. I got to see my nephews, spend time with my parents, reconnect with friends and relax. It was a good trip. And Reba got married!
As I said, 2009 was a year of ups and downs. I learned from the experiences I endured this year, but feel a little bit cheated. To this day, I have taken the high-road with former fiance and not brought up the things I was giving up and/or taking on to be in a relationship with him. He still feels justified in his actions and feels he was right. The only thing he is right about is that we definitely should NOT have gotten married. I learned who my true friends are and who my frenemies are. I have been blessed to be called into Young Women’s to serve with some amazing young ladies. And I got a sweet, lovable, yet troublemaking new dog.
I hope that 2010 has good things in store for everyone!

Patting myself on the back...

I just feel the need to share that I got a 100% on my final for the class I was taking this semester.
Yay me!

Lunch with the girls

When I first started working for T-Mobile in Sacramento, I made some really great friends. There were four of us; Nancy, Wendy, Alan and I. Eight years later, I'm the only one still with T-Mobile and only 2 of us are still in Sacramento, but we are all still really good friends in spite of the distance that separates us.
While I was home, I got to have lunch with Nancy and Wendy.
We met at a local Crepe Restaurant called Danielle's. (I think it may be Nancy's restaurant!)
Here's Wendy and I. Wendy says she looks grumpy because she really just wanted to dive into her food! :)
Here's cute Nancy:We had a picture of Alan with us so he could be there in spirit. In actuality, he was in Connecticut at the airport. But, we text messaged him during our lunch so he could feel like he was with us.
I had a yummy peach crepe with ice cream and caramel:
Wendy had the same thing, only she added whipped cream and chocolate (and the always present Diet Coke):
Nancy was sensible. Instead of dessert, she had a French Dip sandwich:She was the only one of the three of us that wasn't bouncing off of the walls after having eaten all of that sugar so early in the day!
It was loads of fun to see these ladies again!
Aren't we cute?

Christmas wishes

I've decided that posting my Christmas wish list here is a good thing!
It helps the family and anyone who feels inclined to get a gift for me to know what I could use. I think it would be nice if my family and friends started posting their wish lists so I could get them gifts they could use instead of guessing.
This year, I think I posted 10 or 11 wishes starting in October. I was fortunate that I received many of the things I was wishing for!
My dearest friend gave me the yummiest bathrobe ever!

My parents gave me the label maker I asked for:

and the coat I asked for:

and the perfume:

You might remember that they gave me the carpet cleaner I asked for back in October:

I was also lucky to be able to get the laptop I asked for:

Plus, I had a nice visit with the family and got to see my nephews, who are getting way too big if you ask me! And I was able to spend time with a few of my really good friends. These were the best wishes that were filled!
